Just a reminder that we offer an optional study hall every week on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 - 3:45. Your child may stay to have a quiet place to work and/or to receive help.
Reading
This week in reading we will begin to study the elements of fiction. This week we will be learning about these skills through our interactive read alouds. During an interactive read aloud the students watch as the teacher models different strategies and explains her thinking. The students also share their ideas with their partner and/or with the class.

Writing
Last week we finished up our first unit on Personal Narratives. Our second unit this year is on opinion writing. Our focus throughout the unit is on character analysis – students will be choosing a character from a fictional text of their choice and form a supported opinion about that character.
This week we will learn how to use a structure called boxes and bullets to grow our ideas about characters.
Math
This week we will be finishing up Unit 1. The Unit 1 test on rational numbers will be on Thursday. Please see the newsletter for ideas on how to help your child study.
