Here's what's coming up this week!
Homework Tips: As a reminder, your child DOES have HOMEWORK EACH NIGHT! Every night your child is required to read for 30 minutes and practice math facts, or math on Accelerated Math, for at least 15 minutes.
Please check your child's assignment notebook daily for other assignments. You can also look on the calendar under the students tab at the top of this page.
DEB (Differentiated Engagement Block)
This is a time in the day when students move in and out of the classroom to work with teachers and other students at their ability. The DEB focuses around literacy. This week the students who remain in a 6th grade homeroom class will be continuing to work on building our vocabulary. We will be exploring word meanings through the use of visuals, explanations, examples, and discussions. Please help your child study the words and their meanings. Click here to view the words and definitions for Rev It Up: Lesson 1.
Reading
Students will continue to learn about story structure. We will be analyzing literature to identify and explain the plot, exposition, rising action, conflict, and resolution. We will be reading the story The School Play (click on the title to read the story and for some extra comprehension questions you can do with your child at home!) to further discuss plot diagramming.
Also, we are about half-way through first quarter! Please be checking in with your child to ensure they are reading each night to reach their AR goals!
Spelling
Friday we took our Unit 2 Pretest and today, Monday, the students were given their spelling lists for the week. Their homework is the 30 point assignment and it is due on WEDNESDAY! The Unit 2 Spelling TEST will be on Friday.
Writing
This week we will be continuing to draw on our life experiences to write. Your child may have some brief writing homework this week. We have been discussing how the writing process is an ongoing process that needs to be done at all times of the day.
