Just a reminder that study hall is offered every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00-3:45. This is a time when your child can receive extra support, ask questions, and have a quiet place to work. Please let me know if/when your child is staying for study hall.
Don't forget to check out your child's blog (and their classmates blogs!) under the E-Portfolios tab. Feel free to leave them comments and ask them questions about their work! Your child will receive something special when you do!
Please check the 6S calendar under the "students" tab at the top of this page. Nightly homework assignments and important dates are located here!
CONGRATULATIONS 6S! We were the 2nd place winners for the class that collected the most box tops! Friday, March 27th we have earned ourselves a pizza party! PTO will be providing the class with pizza, drinks, and dessert. If your child does not wish to eat pizza, please send him/her with a lunch or remind him/her to order hot lunch.
Reading
This week we will be practicing the skill of close reading. To do this we will be looking at various commercials and songs to discover new understanding about the media.
During DEB 6S will be finishing the novel Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech. The students have been reading and having group discussions about the text. Some students in 6S will be finishing the novel Small Steps by Peg Kehert as well.

Writing
3rd Quarter our focus has been on Research-Based Informational Writing. This week your child will be using time in and out of class to prepare for the final assessment. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday's writing classes will be devoted to researching and note-taking in order to prepare for the assessment. Your child should also be working on this for at least 20 min. each night. Thursday and Friday the assessment will be given.
Math
We have just finished Unit 2 on Ratios and many of the students made tremendous growth throughout the unit! I am very proud of the hard work and effort they have put forth! This week we will be starting Unit 3: Inequalities and Expressions. A copy of the Unit 3 Parent Newsletter (click on the link to view it online & access links) will be coming home Wednesday. Our focus for this week will be to learn and explain what a variable is, and the difference between an equation, inequality, and expressions. We will also begin to understand the relationships of the operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
Social Studies
This will be our last week studying Ancient Egypt. The students are working on WebQuest to gather some final information. There will be a test over Ancient Egypt on Friday.
