WHAT IS TWITTER?
TWITTER is a micro blogging website that allows a user to post an update to followers in 140 characters or less. Our class is using TWITTER as a way of communicating with families about what learning is happening throughout our day. If you choose to follow our class on Twitter you will receive email and/or text updates from our class throughout the day as we create “TWEETS”. We will be composing a “TWEET” as a class, to post to our followers. Our class will TWEET about interesting things we are learning and our daily happenings. We do have a private profile so only those approved will be allowed to follow us.
WHY TWITTER?
Wouldn’t you love to know more about your child’s day at school? Often times the response to your question… “What did you do/learn in school today?” is “nothing” or “I don’t know”. The weekly newsletter that I send home on Friday takes care of this but it is a bit delayed. I hope using TWITTER to report out on the day’s events as they happen can lead to more enriching conversations at home about each day’s learning adventures with a more ‘real-time’ feel.
FOLLOW OUR CLASS ON TWITTER
If you would like to follow us on Twitter please go to https://twitter.com/ms_seger, sign up for a free account, and request to follow us! Once you make this request, I will receive an email and approve you to follow us. Once I approve you, you will receive updates from our class as we TWEET.
You can select to receive email and/or text messages on your mobile phone. If you need support in setting this up or creating a TWITTER account, please let me know. I am more than happy to assist you in getting started and becoming familiar with the use of this technology.
*If you would like to follow our class on TWITTER, please email me your TWITTER user name and email so I know who I am approving.
LET US FOLLOW YOU ON TWITTER
If you would like our class to follow you on Twitter, please set up a new account for our class only. Otherwise, once we request to follow you, we will be able to see ALL OF YOUR TWEETS.
Students may TWEET from home with parent supervision from your account. This is a great way for students to share their learning and discoveries when they are not at school. Sometimes, we will read your Tweets as a class.
Here are some ideas about what to TWEET about from home…
