Just a reminder that we offer an optional study hall every week on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 – 4:00. Your child may stay to have a quiet place to work and/or to receive help.
Reading
This week in reading we will finish studying the elements of fiction. We will be learning about these skills through our mini lessons. The mini lessons are meant to be brief class discussions in which the teacher models a strategy and then assists the students in completing it. The students also share their ideas with their partner and/or with the class. We will also be taking the pre-assessment for our next unit on nonfiction. Although iMovie packets have been collected and returned to students, we are still working on creating the trailers using iMovie on our fiction and nonfiction books. Reading Logs are due on Fridays.
This week the skills and strategies we are working on include:
Our mentor texts this week include:
Writing
This week we are writing our opinion post assessments with the information that we gathered on Friday. Students will be crafting a claim about a character and supporting that claim with evidence from the text and their own knowledge.
Math
This week we are continuing on in Unit 2, Expressions and Equations. We will learn how to expand and write multiplication expressions. We will also begin learning how to distribute expressions. The station work is due next Thursday, November 19th.
Please remember that your child should be practicing math for at least 15 minutes a night. This can be done with flash cards, writing out and practicing adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing decimals, IXL, etc.
