I used to believe in God but as I got more and more into astronomy and cosmology, my belief in him ceased to exist and thanks to that me and my friend got into an argument whether divine creation was real or not. “If only evolution made us better.” I had said, I don’t really remember why I said it. But as the words came out of my mouth he friend looked at me. He gave his opinion but what he was saying was basically the same: “God is real, read the bible.” “The bible is just a story book.” And that statement that I made caused him to spit out “facts” that prove god is real. He told me God created the world in 6 days and he kept telling be to “just have faith”, `so I gave my side of the argument and said real facts of how the Earth came to be, facts about the theory of evolution but he still wouldn’t budge. I gave more proof but now he looked like he wanted so hit me so I walked away, as I was walking, I expected a sharp pain to shoot up my spine but all I felt was a light tap on my shoulder. He told to me to believe in what I want to believe and he walked away briskly. I sat down at my makeshift recording studio to record a new instrumental. I planned to originally do this with my acoustic guitar but the string broke before I could start so i had to use my MIDI keyboard. I plugged it in to my guitar amplifier and surprisingly it worked.
First I came up with the main melody which took a painstaking half hour to come up with. Once the drums were set, I recorded the melody on my keyboard. I then wanted to add a bass guitar but I didn't have one so I changed the setting on my keyboard to sound like a bass. I listened to the song once and I liked it but it sounded a bit empty. Earlier I had listened to the song "Yesterday" and I noticed a string quartet in the background, So I changed the settings on my keyboard once again to string quartet and my own string background. What was supposed to be a short instrumental became a 3 minute song, now I just need someone to sing. I was in line to test for the Beatles' song Day Tripper on guitar. My guitar partner was with me so I generously let him go first, but the truth was even though I had played guitar about a billion times at home and even after I played Day Tripper more than a hundred times, I was still nervous that I would mess up.
After my guitar partner had completely messed up on Surf Rock, it was my turn. The teacher asked me what song I was playing and told her it was Day Tripper, I played the song as perfectly as I did at home but she stopped me. "Everyone be quiet, I want to film this." She told the rest of the class as they started to crowd around me. As soon as the teacher said go ahead I played it and even included the chorus and verse not just the main riff, I wanted to do the solo but I needed an electric guitar to do it. As soon as I finished I walked back to my seat but just as I sat down, the teacher called me back up to play it again but without all those people crowding around. So I repeated the song with a few guitar fills in and when I could finally sit down I my seat a bunch of people came up and asked me to play song but before they could finish the music teacher told them to sit down. After the commotion died down I went to band. I was on the bus when I noticed I didn't have my backpack but every body else did. It was my first time in second year band and I forgot my backpack at Jefferson Junior High.
I panicked and repeatedly tapped my friend on the shoulder and he turned toward me, clearly annoyed. I told him what happened and he replied with the very annoying reply: "You are gonna be in so much trouble." He said. "And you are not helping." He then turned to every Edgewood student and started blabbing about the situation which the most annoying thing he did out of the day. When the bus finally got to school I went to the nearest teacher, the gym teacher, and told him about it. He then told the office and they sent someone to retrieve it. |
