"Bella!" Coach Jason shouted. "You're up to bat! Hurry up!"
I got up from the bench in the dugout, put on my batting gloves, and helmet. I grabbed my bat on the way to home plate. As I walked, I dragged my feet in the dirt, puffing up little clouds of dust. I dragged my bat behind me. I knew we weren't going to win. We were down by four points, and there's no way I could ever hit a home run. I never have anyways, and if I could, I would know it. I finally got to the plate. The crowd fell silent. The only talking I could really hear was my team mates, cheering my name. As if I wasn't nervous enough. I put my bat on my shoulder, and took a deep breath. The pitcher wound up her arm. Well, here goes nothing; I thought.
The ball shot forward. It was the perfect pitch. I swung. The world was gone to me. Almost as if I was a giant, and the world was a spec of dust, that no body knew about, cared about, or knew it was there. I didn't care anymore. I finally snapped out of my trance, and felt the ball hit the bat. I felt the vibration run through my arms, down my spine, and into my feet. I dropped the bat and ran.
I was in my trance once again, only different. I wanted some thing, so desperately, but I had no idea what it was. I ran faster, wanting to get to the thing I wanted, quicker, as if it were a prize. All I could hear was the gasping of my breath, as I tagged first base. I stopped for a second, and looked at second. The ball was no where near second. I ran there too. It wasn't until I was half way to second, that I notice my ball went all the way into the out field. I guess every one wasn't paying attention, and missed my grounder. I tagged second base.
I ran to third, after all, the ball was no where near it. I ran, harder. All three of the girls that were on base before me all made it to home and scored a point already. I just got us three points. We were one away to win. My legs were starting to get tiered, but I kept going, faster, and faster. I heard the dirt behind me, kicking up clouds, as I tagged third. The ball wasn't near home yet, but one girl finally got the ball. If I made it to home, we would win. If not, we would lose, and go home. It was all, or nothing. I took my chances and sprinted to third. The girl threw the ball home. I was sweating. A lot. It was all dripping into my eyes, making me blind. I'm almost there...
"SLIDE!!!" I heard the team say. In a split second, I was sliding in the dirt. I felt the hard, home plate under my foot. At the same time, I felt the catchers glove slam into the side of my body, with the softball inside of it. It took the umpire a minute to figure out if I was safe. I sat, completely still. Every one was silent. Even my team mates. Then, the umpire finally made her choice.
"SAFE!" She yelled. I stood there, my mouth gaping open, my eyes wide. I couldn't move. I guess I was so happy, I couldn't move. My teammates ran out to hug me, screaming. They all gave me hugs and high fives. I was still standing there. I was astonished. I listened to the crowd, cheering and laughing.
"Bella." Coach Jason said, walking up to me. He was smiling, ear to ear. "You're home run just won us the game.
